Gum shaping involves cutting or removing excess gum tissue around your teeth and restoring the gum tissue.
The process of removing or restoring the gums with surgery and laser device is called gingivectomy. In some individuals, gums are more prominent than teeth. Gum shaping is performed to eliminate this situation. Thanks to this treatment method, the dominant appearance of the gums is reduced. Since the treatment method applied to patients whose gums are more prominent than their teeth is a procedure performed under anaesthesia, it is a procedure performed without any pain or pain sensation. Before the diseased teeth are treated, the teeth and gums are cleaned. The duration of the procedure may vary according to the number of teeth to be treated. A more aesthetic appearance will appear after the gums are removed.

The most common cause of gum recession is gum disease called ‘Periodontitis’. In addition, the wrong toothbrush preference or wrong brushing technique also causes tartar accumulation in the gums and gum recession begins.

Gingival recession can be treated with different methods. In the treatment of gingival recession, the cause of recession should be determined first. Depending on the amount of recession, recession can be treated with simple preventive methods or gingival operations.

As a result of gingival recession, the root surface tissue (cementum), which is under the enamel layer of the tooth and covered with gums in healthy teeth, is exposed. This tissue is easily distinguished because it is more yellow in colour compared to the enamel.

To prevent gingival recession, teeth should be brushed at least twice a day with the right brush and the right brushing method, and the interfaces that the brush cannot reach should be cleaned with dental floss.

Treatments are usually performed with local anaesthesia, i.e. regional numbing. For this reason, there will be no complaint of pain during the procedure.
